System architecture, foundations and methods (WP6)

The overall objective of this workpackage is to lay the foundations and methodologies for the development of a new range of components, architectures, guidelines and standards that underpins the future development of ambient systems.

  • To develop an open platform for ambient systems with an extensible set of universally installable tools, devices, and services that bridge the gap between the needs of different stakeholders and the core ambient system infrastructure. Our ambition is to establish this platform as a standard for investigation of ambient systems environments in research and academia.

  • To lay the foundations for understanding interactions and methodologies in ambient systems with the conceptual frameworks, models and notations needed to describe the structure and behavior of system components from a variety of research perspectives. The work on foundations will be pursued with a view of advancing the research discipline of ubiquitous computing and is aimed to overcome the current ad hoc nature of designs and evaluations.

  • Definition of novel concepts and methodologies for future ambient systems with a high level of user-satisfaction, security and efficiency.

  • To lay the foundations for the development of a new range of guidelines, methodologies  and standards that supports the future development of ambient systems.
